About the Farm – Land
We dwell in the Arkansas Headwaters Watershed and the Central Colorado Foodshed at an elevation of 8000 ft. With a beautiful view of Mt. Princeton, our 7 acre garden is situated in a meadow accustomed to hosting agricultural endeavors. The sandy loam soil, delivered by Cottonwood Creek over millennia, and the relative protection from harsh winds, combined with ample water rights, make the Weathervane Farm fields prime for vegetable growing. Employed in hay production in recent history, the meadow has also raised lettuce, as well as, dairy and meat animals. In 2008 Weathervane Farm became active tenants and prepared the soil for the small seeds of vegetables. Cottonwood Creek rolls by along the north edge the meadow, down through the town of Buena Vista to the Arkansas River.
